In SSU, interim results were presented for the project “Equal opportunities for getting profession by young mother-students in higher education establishments.” Project partners from all over Ukraine gathered in SSU in the last week of September in order to hear about the experiences of those who are creating university environments which promote a balanced combination of family and education/work.

The goal of the presentation was to involve participants in the process of creating a “Family-friendly university” network in universities across Ukraine, similar to what has been created in developed countries. Today, the family-friendly infrastructure within SSU includes a whole range of services and activities for students, staff and visitors. In particular, the program includes flexible forms of educational process, advising services for parents, developmental programs for children, facilities for young children, educational and health programs, and more.

All of this contributes to a fruitful combination of family responsibilities with study and work. Another important achievement of the project "Equal opportunities for getting profession by young mother-students in higher education establishments" was the presentation of manuals addressed to the administrations of institutions wishing to implement these family-friendly policies.

"Our university has started to investigate the experience of implementing family-friendly approaches in other universities and workplaces in Ukraine and abroad 3 years ago. Now, we are able to offer our own success story – ‘SSU – Family-friendly University.’ With researchers from other universities in Ukraine we discussed how to implement the initiative in their regions.

The project team is confident that we will succeed. Indeed, we found support and recognition of our work not only in universities but also in specialized agencies - the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine,” said project manager Nina Svitaylo.

This project is funded by the European Union. The project is implemented by Sumy State University. For more information please visit: http://www.leleka.sumdu.edu.ua
